Together with our innovative suppliers and partners, Finipur's R&D team set out to find a solution to this challenging and pressing problem. After extensive research and testing, a new coating based on red phosphorus was developed. This was first developed at laboratory level and then further developed at industrial level.
The result of this development is a durable and high-performance coating that complies with various fire safety standards. What's more, this technology is suitable for both the residential market and the contract market (such as hotels, offices and public spaces). Advantages of red phosphorus coating for fire-retardant textiles
- Highly effective: Thanks to the high phosphorus content in the coating, it has a strong fire-retardant effect.
- When burned, phosphorus forms a protective carbon-containing layer. This layer limits the heat and oxygen supply to the textile or treated substrate, preventing or delaying the spread of fire to the textile.
- This coating can be used on a wide range of materials because it is compatible with various polymers and textile substrates.
- Red phosphorus coating is free of halogens (including antimony) and, unlike traditional halogen-based fire retardants, a red phosphorus-based coating is an interesting alternative with potentially lower toxicity.
